Although grand larceny in the 4th degree is the least serious form of grand larceny in New York, it carries a maximum of 4 years in prison. Even if prison can be avoided, it is a felony so any conviction could severely damage your reputation because it will show up in a background check. The state prison sentencing is indeterminate meaning that you must do a range, not a specific amount of years. The minimum is up to 1 year in jail, or 1 to 3 years in prison. The maximum is 1.3 to 4 years in prison. You could also get up to 1 year in jail.
